AcreScope began with a simple conviction: the people most exposed to locust swarms deserve the same early warning that satellites already make possible. It pairs open scientific data with the eyes of the community to turn scattered observations into something a farmer can act on.
AcreScope draws on locust observation data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and environmental data from NASA, processed through Google Earth Engine. We are deeply grateful for this open data, which makes early warning possible. AcreScope is an independent project: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the FAO, NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey, or Google. Any analysis, risk estimates, and opinions presented in the app and on this site are our own. For full citations and disclaimers, see the About Us page.
